About Us

THE KISHKINDA TRUST

The Kishkinda Trust was established at Anegundi of Hampi UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 with a vision of securing the future of the cultural landscape and community through promotion of cultural industries and creative economies based on locally available resources. We believe that conservation and business incubation can help in socio-economic development of a community. TKT assists local communities of Anegundi, a Historic settlement across Tungabhadra river from Hampi, at the grassroots level to help build capacity to maintain business incubators and conserve their historical heritage.

TKT focuses intensively on improving their economic conditions and quality of life by engaging and empowering the local communities through various multi – disciplinary projects and undertaken capacity building of communities across fields such as architectural conservation, heritage restoration, crafts and design, hospitality and management, education through performing arts and markets and festivals, so that their lives are nurtured, enriched and empowered by their own culture and identities.

The Kishkinda Trust is committed to help protect the rural heritage and revitalize rural communities in the World Heritage Site of Hampi.

While creating a model village for cultural industries with a replicable plan across the country, the restoration and holistic development of its traditional historic homes within their cultural landscape and promotion of cultural industry incubators within these restored spaces enables the local community to manage their own art, craft, hospitality for heritage tourism and culinary enterprises. These creative enterprises compliment the values of sustainability and conservation, which are based on the unique heritage resources of these ancient lands.

TKT aims to create a model arts and crafts village in a world heritage site that is led and managed by the community stakeholders. Thereby promoting the cultural custodians of the Kishkinda land to persevere and progress through the preservation of their cultural and natural heritage.
